Tyler meet with Dr. Kravetz late in the afternoon on Tuesday. Dr. Kravetz had to nudge Tyler for a few seconds to awaken him. Dr. Kravetz asked Ty his name and Tyler was able to tell him his name. One thing to remember is that Tyler has a hard time talking after having the respirator tube in his throat for 2 days and also a tube into his stomach for 2 days. His words were hard to understand.
Dr. Kravetz asked him if he knew the people in the room and Ty responded with mom & dad. Ty was asked where he lived and he responded Tucson. Dr. Kravetz asked Ty to hold up 2 fingers. Tyler was able to hold up 2 fingers correctly. Then the doctor asked Tyler to hold up only 1 finger. Ty dropped one finger and successfully flipped off the doctor. Everyone in the room was laughing. Although I am sure it was not intentional it sure did lift the spirits of everyone there.
Dr. Kravetz was extremely pleased with Tyler's responses. He will be sending a speech therapist and a physical therapist in on Wednesday to evaluate what Ty's rehabilitation needs will be. With luck, by the end of this week or the beginning of next week we will be able to transfer Tyler down to the Healthsouth rehabilitation unit at North West Hospital.
